Vietnamese pangasius exports to top USD 1.6 billion in 2016

Vietnamese Pangasius exports will net $1.6 billion in 2016, a year-on-year increase of 6.6%, officials said, according to Vietnam Breaking News. In 2017 exports are expected to reach $1.7 bn, a 10% y-o-y increase.

The figures were announced at a recent conference in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang to review production and consumption and seek measures for the sector’s sustainable development.

In addition, some Vietnamese pangasius firm plans brand launch after gaining four BAP stars like Godaco and Vinh Hoan. These firms wanted to expand sales in Europe and the US where require BAP certification. Godaco also plans its brand launch for “natural fillets, as well as cooked and value-added products”, in 2017.

Vietnam has so far this year exported fish to 140 countries with the bulk of products going to the US, the European Union, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Saudi Arabia.
