Total pangasius harvest in 2024 estimated at approximately 1.67 million tons

The farming area is projected to cover 5,370 hectares, with an expected harvest output of about 1.67 million tons, equivalent to 99% of the 2023 figure.

By the end of October, pangasius fry production was estimated at 25.95 billion, while fingerlings reached 3.9 billion. For the full year of 2024, fry production is forecast to reach 30 billion, with fingerlings projected at 40 billion, providing substantial support to farming regions.

To enhance the pangasius industry and seize emerging opportunities, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien called on ministries, sectors, and local authorities to prioritize large-scale, biosecure industrial pangasius farming, reinforce management practices, and minimize antibiotic use in aquaculture. He also underscored the importance of stringent oversight of seed production facilities to ensure the availability of high-quality breeding stock. Additionally, the industry should embrace green production and processing practices with a strong focus on reducing environmental emissions.

As a result, the effectiveness of scientific research in pangasius farming and production has improved; the production, processing, and consumption chain has been integrated; the application of science and technology has been strengthened; and by-products are being used to increase the product’s value.

In addition to traditional markets, it is essential to explore and develop new potential markets for the export of pangasius, with a particular focus on Halal markets.
