Shrimp Improvement Systems: 15 years of continuous development of the shrimp broodstock field

On the morning of February 17, in the coastal city of Nha Trang, Vietnam, Shrimp Improvement Systems (SIS) organized the 2023 Technical Seminar for its customers in Vietnam. This was a crucial activity of the company in order to show appreciation to customers and agents and to help shrimp farmers reduce production costs, increase growth rates, and aim for successful crops, as well as the future sustainability of Vietnam’s shrimp industry. 

The event had the attendance of Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries; Mr. David Leong, Chairman of Shrimp Improvement Systems Company; the company’s board of directors; and nearly 200 representatives of shrimp hatcheries across the country. 

Mr. David Leong, Chairman of SIS Company, expressed his gratitude to the customers who have supported the business throughout the years in his opening speech. After 15 years of ongoing development, SIS has successfully collaborated with hatcheries, and the company hopes to continue this relationship in the years ahead. The current successes reaped by SIS are thanks to its production of lines of the best-quality shrimp seed products, along with a research and development team that consistently updates and enhances product characteristics.

With its establishment in 1998 in Islamorada, Florida, USA, the Shrimp Improvement Systems Company is renowned as the world’s largest supplier of specific pathogen-free (SPF) shrimp broodstock. There are not many shrimp breeders in the world that can boast the track record and commitment of the SIS genetic program. SIS has been able to quickly develop high-quality products with excellent consistency thanks to a team of scientists and technicians who are passionate about enhancing the quality of broodstock and feel a sense of responsibility to continue improving shrimp farming all over the world. The company focuses on three crucial elements that are essential for all of its clients to succeed: “Good broodstock + Good hatchery + Good farmer = Good results.” 

Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director of the Directorate of Fisheries, spoke at the Seminar. 

“Today, the natural environment is changing very quickly (in a negative direction), and disease outbreaks are more frequent, heavier, and unpredictable,” said Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries, “Vietnam’s shrimp story is important, particularly in the breeding stage, the first stage of production toward sustainability against threats from the climate and diseases in the Mekong Delta, in addition to the subpar progress of shrimp broodstock in the Vietnam market.” He praised SIS’s prior contributions to Vietnam’s shrimp industry and expressed his hope that SIS would keep making investments in science and technology in order to supply Vietnam’s shrimp seed market with the best products at reasonable prices. At the Seminar, the delegates also listened to the presentation of Mr. Harris Wright, Director of Research and Development at SIS, about SIS’s shrimp hatchery production processes, especially the application of biotechnology to create new shrimp broodstock lines with superior quality in the world. Furthermore, Mr. Kenneth Tay, Sales Director of SIS, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Company, received and answered recommendations and suggestions related to policy, quality, and price from the attendees.

Mr. David Leong, Chairman of SIS, presented a bouquet to Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries. 

At the seminar, Dr. Heny Budi Utari, veterinary sector manager of CP Prima, Indonesia, talked about the detection of EHP by microscopy and the quality of shrimp seed. 

Dr. Tran Huu Loc gave a presentation on the situation of shrimp diseases in Vietnam.

Mr. Harris Wright, Director of Research and Development, shared information about SIS’s shrimp seed production processes.

This is the second SIS customer seminar to be held in Vietnam. SIS has supported and stood by shrimp hatcheries and farmers amid the current environmental hardships while making technological investments and enhancements to increase productivity and generate revenue. SIS Company has built trust with Vietnamese shrimp farmers by providing them with the best quality products available and working towards sustainable development.
