Vietnamese Seafood Exporters Urged to Extend Registration with U.S. FDA

According to VASEP, Vietnamese seafood and other foodstuff enterprises must extend their registration with the U.S.’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a bid to become eligible suppliers for the American market.

The registration must be made by Dec 31 this year, according to the FDA, the association said, adding those firms fail to make re-registration will not be allowed to ship their stock to the U.S.

Vietnamese companies must appoint their representatives in the U.S. to contact with the FDA, and these representatives will have different roles to those of importers, distributors or trade organizations, said VASEP. According to the FDA’s regulation, exporters of foodstuff and seafood to the U.S. must renew their registration with the agency every two years.

Currently, the U.S. is the biggest buyer of Vietnamese seafood exports and accounts for a fifth of the Southeast Asian country’s export revenue of the commodity.
