Nam Định: Protecting shrimp farming at the end of the year
The weather in the North at the end of the year is often cold, rainy, and the salinity in the water decreases, affecting the health of farmed shrimp. However, at that time, the demand for shrimp increased and the price was better, so many shrimp farmers in Nam Định province still focused on stocking.
Recently, due to the influence of the COVID-19 epidemic and unfavorable weather, the price of commercial shrimp was not stable, so people stocked shrimp at the end of the crop more slowly than in 2020. Many farming households did not arrange settling ponds to Treating water before supplying it to the ponds makes shrimp farmers unable to take the initiative to ensure the quality of water for the ponds, especially during the change of seasons, erratic sunshine and rain, so the pond environment is easily polluted. the disease is easy to arise.
In order to limit risks and losses, many shrimp farmers in the province have converted from raising earthen ponds to raising earthen ponds with canvas or making round ponds, investing in closed water circulation technology and other equipment. equipment such as fans, pumps, instruments to measure the water environment and some other essential tools to strictly control the farming environment, limit the influence of the weather on shrimp farming. Therefore, when investing in a system of settling ponds, the water used for shrimp farming will be cleaner, limit diseases in shrimp herds, and improve farming efficiency.
According to the Nam Định Fisheries Department, high-tech investment in shrimp farming has minimized the loss rate due to the influence of the environment and weather (the loss from farming to selling is only about 10%). So far, in the province, there have been many shrimp farming areas with high efficiency such as communes: Giao Phong, Bạch Long, Giao Thiện (Giao Thủy); Hải Chính, Hải Triều, Hải Lý (Hải Hậu)…
In order for the year-end shrimp crop to be highly effective, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed the Sub-department of Fisheries to coordinate with functional agencies to closely monitor farming areas, stocking and harvesting of farmed species. Continue to perform environmental monitoring and warning tasks in aquaculture, notify the results to management units, with recommendations to farmers. In addition, the Fisheries Sub-Department also coordinated with other units to guide the strengthening of integrated disease prevention and cold-fighting measures to manage the health of shrimp stocks in the year-end crop. Continue to propagate and guide people to comply with regulations on aquaculture management: conditions for aquaculture establishments, registration for key farming, assurance of food safety in aquaculture. Coordinate with localities to summarize aquaculture production results in 2021, plan in 2022 to draw lessons for the following crops. In addition, shrimp farmers in the province also need to follow the instructions and recommendations of specialized agencies to raise shrimp at the end of the year to ensure safety and efficiency.
Shrimp is one of the main aquaculture species of Nam Định province. High-tech shrimp farming is a sustainable model, opening an effective and promising direction for intensive shrimp farmers in the province. With positive and synchronous solutions, it is hoped that shrimp farmers will continue to have a successful year-end shrimp crop with high economic efficiency.
