Hải Phòng: Strictly prohibit bivalve mollusk culture in Cát Bà by Dec 11, 2023
The People’s Committee of Cát Hải district of Hải Phòng city has just announced to stop farming mollusks on bamboo scaffolding and styrofoam buoys on bays of Cát Bà islands. A vast majority of the farmers have obeyed.
However, some farmers haven’t handed in the surface water to the Government because mollusks have not reached the harvest size. The Cát Hải district People’s Committee announced that organizations and individuals would be strictly prohibited to stock and rear mollusks in tidal areas and underground reefs in bays of Cát Bà islands from August 22, 2023.
The current mollusk farming areas in local tidal areas and underground reefs must be harvested, backfilled, and handed in to the authority by Dec 31, 2023. In case organizations and individuals fail to obey, they will be handled in accordance with legal regulations by the People’s Committee of Cát Hải district.
The People’s Committee of Cát Hải district assigns the Management Boards of bays of Cát Bà islands in association with People’s Committee of communes and towns, the Border Station of Cát Bà district, and the Cát Bà National Garden to check if the performance goes well and strictly handle violations as regulated.
The Office of Culture – Information – Sport and Tourism, the Center of Culture – Information – Sport are assigned to inform and disseminate on the media channels and the portal office about prohibition of bivalve mollusk farming on tidal areas and underground reefs in bays of Cát Bà islands.
