Prevent fishing vessels from trespassing water territory

Quảng Bình had 35 fishing vessels trespassing China’s water territory in the first six months of 2020. On the other hand, many Chinese vessels trespassed Quảng Bình’s water.

On July 22, 2020, Deputy Minister Phùng Đức Tiến and delegations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development worked with Quảng Bình’s People’s Committee about the fight against IUU fishing.

Representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reported on the situation and results of the fight against IUU fishing in the last few months.

In 2018 and 2019, the Fishing Port Management Board of Quảng Bình granted 33 certificates of seafood material valued over 400 tons. Quảng Bình’s sub-department of Agriculture and Rural Development granted 9 certificates of seafood products valued over 170 tons. This has facilitated companies exporting their seafood to the EU and Asia.

The dissemination of water territory of fishing has been paid special attention. In 2019, not any cases in contravention of foreign water were recorded.

However, the High Command of Marine Police claimed 35 fishing vessels of Quảng Bình violating China’s water territory. As many as 175 fishing vessels of Quảng Bình were reported trespassing water territory from the surveillance system. The province’s authorities have detected 73 Chinese fishing vessels trespassing Quảng Bình’s water for exploitation since 2018.

Deputy Minister Phùng Đức Tiến recognized efforts made by Quảng Bình’s authorities in fighting against IUU fishing. He requested the province continue to strictly follow IUU fishing regulations, enhance the effectiveness of the surveillance system, hand in log books, confirm and certify exploited seafood, provide information of fishing vessels prior to departure and arrival. Besides, Quảng Bình was requested to strictly handle fishing vessels in deliberate contravention of IUU fishing.
