Đà Nẵng to improve traceability in seafood industry

Đà Nẵng is boosting prevention of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Đà Nẵng People’s Committee has just approved a plan of inspecting, checking, and controlling fishery in the city. The plan includes regulations, approaches to risk assessments, and standards for controlling and preventing IUU fishing activities in accordance with EC’s instructions.

Đà Nẵng People’s Committeeand Agriculture and Rural Development Department are coordinating with the city’s Border Defense Forces Headquarter and relevant agencies to set up a Fisheries Control Office. They are also developing some coordination rules among forces; inspecting and controlling fishery activities under the law. The forces must be on duty all day and night to check fishing boats before and after they sail away from Thọ Quang fishing port. They are supposed to handle violation cases that happen within the city’s maritime border.

Thọ Quang fishing port received 50-55 turns of boats averagely in the last six months. These boats came for traceability and sell seafood. Đà Nẵng’s Agriculture and Rural Development Department has teamed up with Border Defense Forces Headquarter and People’s Committee of districts to instruct 20 seafood export companies and nearly 400 fishermen cum owners or captains of the boats with at least 90 CV to carry out traceability. People’s Committee of districts coordinated with Agriculture and Rural Development Department, Defense Forces Headquarter,Information and Communications Department, the city’s Farmers Society, and others agencies to make public about Đà Nẵng’s plan of fisheries controlling.
