Khanh Hoa: Dismantling numerous illegal fish farms in Cam Ranh Bay

After a year of implementing Resolution No. 32 by the Cam Ranh City Party Committee on strengthening Party leadership in managing marine cage aquaculture in Cam Ranh Bay, many unauthorized aquaculture operations have been dismantled.

The Cam Ranh City People’s Committee stated that the city is developing the Cam Ranh Bay Coastal Urban Area Project, spanning 1,254 hectares across 10 coastal communes and wards, from Cam Lập Commune to Cam Nghia Ward. In response, local authorities have intensified efforts to curb illegal marine encroachment for unauthorized aquaculture.

In the Long Ho Bridge area (Cam Nghia Ward), nearly 40 violations have been recorded. The City People’s Committee has issued four administrative penalties, totaling 100 million VND in fines, and ordered the removal of four illegal rafts. All cases have since complied with the corrective measures.

The city has issued 32 directives for remedial action, with 18 cases resolved. For the remaining 14 non-compliant cases, the Cam Nghia Ward People’s Committee plans to enforce measures in February 2025. Additionally, in coastal wards like Cam Phu, Cam Thuan, Cam Linh, Cam Phuc Bac, and Ba Ngoi, the city’s People’s Committee has ordered the removal of fish farming cages within the Cam Ranh Bay Urban Area Project zone.

According to Ha The An, Vice Chairman of the Cam Ranh City People’s Committee, the city has directed residents to refrain from arbitrarily increasing aquaculture cages. Authorities are gradually reducing and ultimately aiming to eliminate unregulated marine aquaculture. Any unauthorized expansion of farming areas or cages will be swiftly detected and strictly addressed.

The People’s Committee of Cam Ranh City is collaborating with the Institute of Fisheries Science and Technology (Nha Trang University) to survey and propose a plan for reorganizing aquaculture cages in Cam Ranh Bay, aiming to maximize benefits for local farmers.

An stated that the city will continue directing the People’s Committees of coastal communes and wards, the City Economic Department, and relevant authorities to strengthen legal education on aquaculture regulations. Residents will be urged not to expand aquaculture cages or place them outside designated zones. Strict measures will be taken against those who persist in violations despite repeated warnings.

The city will seek financial support from Vingroup’s Thiện Tâm Fund to expand the HDPE cage farming model introduced in 2024. Additionally, it will promote the transition from traditional marine aquaculture to modern, high-tech farming to reduce aquaculture density in Cam Ranh Bay.
