The General Department of Vietnam Customs has just issued an official document requesting provincial customs departments to strengthen the examination of imported seafood and refuse for clearance if any crate is detected in contravention of illegal exploitation.
The General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC) aims to implement the Decision no.757/QĐ-TTg dated June 04, 2020 by the Prime Minister about approving the plan to carry out the Agreement on Port State Measures to prevent, deter, and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing drawn by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) by 2025.
In particular, GDVC requested provincial departments to direct sub-departments of customs to strengthen the examination of imported seafood, check and compare document related to foreign vessels that called into Vietnam’s ports for imports, temporary imports, re-exports, re-imports, and transit via Vietnam so that regulatory clearance is assured.
The document states that departments have the right to refuse clearance when detecting any crates in contravention of IUU fishing regulation.
