Cà Mau harvested nearly 98,000 tons of shrimp in the first five months of 2022, up 10.9% from the same period last year. However, prices of shrimp material, especially black tiger shrimps, have stayed steady.
Prices of white leg shrimps from intensive farms slightly increased further 2,000 – 4,000 dong/kg in early May 2022. White leg shrimps, size 100 pcs/kg, are sold at 95,000 – 97,000 dong/kg.
Meanwhile, black tiger shrimp, size 10 – 20 pcs/kg, are sold at high prices without any sign of fluctuation. Prices of black tiger shrimp material, size 20 pcs/kg, ranged between 225,000 – 235,000 dong/kg, up 10,000 dong/kg; size 30 pcs/kg ranged between 185,000 – 195,000 dong/kg, up 5,000 dong/kg; size 40 pcs/kg stayed steady at 160,000 – 170,000 dong/kg.
According to the Cà Mau provincial People’s Committee, the province harvested as many as 259,715 tons in the first five months of 2022, up 1.6% from the same period last year, with shrimp output reaching nearly 98,000 tons, up 10.9% as compared to the same period of 2021.
Cà Mau has more than 10,340 households related to intensive and super-intensive shrimp farming with a total area of over 7,390ha. More than 3,860ha of land were used for super-intensive farming in the first five months of the year by 3,934 households. Most of the local intensive, super-intensive, and improved extensive ponds are stocking for the new crop.
So as to improve the effectiveness of aquaculture in the near future, Cà Mau provincial People’s Committee plans to increase capacity and quality and focus on high capacity farming models and eco friendly farming methods which well adapt to climate change. Moreover, farmers are advised to follow up the weather, hydrometeorology, and response solutions so as to minimize damages caused by natural disasters.
The province tries to achieve 630,000 tons of wild-caught and farmed species, with shrimp output reaching 230,000 tons and processed shrimp output being 157,000 tons.
