Sóc Trăng stocked over 13,349ha of brackish water shrimp
As for the 2023 crop of brackish water in Sóc Trăng, white leg shrimps were stocked from Jan 15, black tiger shrimps were stocked from Mar 15, and black tiger shrimp were stocked before Sep 2023. By April 24, the province had stocked over 13,349 ha of shrimp, fulfilling 18% of the plan and equal to 70% of the same period last year. 158ha was damaged (28ha lower than the same period last year).
As many as 8,622 tons of shrimp have been harvested from 1,043ha. About 8.090ha has not been harvested, with 5,501ha of shrimp under 30 days old, over 2,386ha of shrimp between 30 and 60 days old, and more than 202ha of shrimp over 60 days old. White leg shrimps size 50-100 pcs/kg are sold at 91,000-111,000 dong/kg.
Sóc Trăng provincial sub-department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that so as to harvest 206,700 tons of shrimp as the 2023 plan, the provincial agriculture sector would deploy solutions such as: enhance the supervision of farming environment, especially water environment survey, disease outbreak; provision of updated information of water quality, disease outbreak, intime meteorological and hydrological forecast for smooth production.
The province continues to renew the dissemination and cooperation for science and technique transferring, and apply information technology and social media. Cooperatives and working groups in the commune should gather and cooperate to establish a large and responsible material production area which assures VietGAP, GlobalGAP, ASC, and BAP schemes. The province will cooperate with local authorities to follow up shrimp culture and grant identification codes for households.
