Due to China’s temporary suspension of spiny lobster (Panulirus ornatus) imports, the Directorate of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), advises local farmers to reduce spiny lobster farming, increase green lobster farming, and harvest at an appropriate time.
MARD has just received feedback from some spiny lobster exporting entities and Phú Yên provincial Fisheries Association regarding China’s temporary suspension of spiny lobster (Panulirus ornatus) imports. The Ministry has sent an official document to the Nanning Customs Department, under the General Administration of Customs of China. However, no response has been produced so far.
While awaiting feedback, the Directorate of Fisheries recommends that provinces control the spiny lobster farming more strictly and control the quality of post larvae.
The Research Institute for Aquaculture III continues to collaborate with the provincial Department of Agriculture to promptly guide farmers on technical measures and support them to address technical issues during the culture.
Localities should send officials to guide farmers on technical measures so that their farming areas can be well managed; fully update information in logbooks, and store relevant documents for traceability when required.
The National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department states that as usual practice, if China introduces new regulations on the control of food safety and imported aquatic disease, they will send a notice to trading partners, including Vietnam.
However, the Department has not received any notification from the Chinese authorities regarding these new regulations or the temporary suspension of live spiny lobster sent from Vietnam.
China has diversified their lobster supply resources from Canada, the US, New Zealand, Cuba, India, Brazil, Mexico. This may affect orders of Vietnamese lobsters.
