Sóc Trăng: Trần Đề dried-fish village preparing stocks for Tet

Throughout the past month, the dried-fish village in Cảng hamlet (Trần Đề town, Trần Đề district) has been busy producing dried seafood products to provide the market in the run-up to Tet.

Nguyễn Như Ý, owner of the Thảo Nguyên dried seafood production facility in Trần Đề district, mentioned that her family owns a large-capacity boat for offshore catching, thus she always has fresh and diverse raw materials. As a result, the prices of their dried products are 5-10% cheaper than elsewhere.

Lâm Nguyệt Thanh, owner of Nguyệt Thanh dried seafood production facility in Trần Đề town, Trần Đề district, stated that this year the facility has prepared nearly 2 tons of dried products for the Tet market. The majority of these products are sold in bulk to Hồ Chí Minh City, Bình Dương province, and Đồng Nai province.

Due to a decrease in the seafood catch compared to the previous year, the prices of dried products have increased. For example, dried squid has seen a price increase of 100,000 VND/kg, dried yellowstripe scad has increased by 10,000 VND/kg or more, small shrimp has increased by 50,000 VND/kg, and so on.

The dried-fish village in Cảng hamlet, Trần Đề town, Trần Đề district, is renowned in Sác Trăng province for processing and selling various types of dried sea fish, with prices ranging from tens of thousands to several hundred thousand VND, and even a few million VND per kilogram. Customers can easily choose to their liking.

Cảng hamlet dried-fish village has been established and developed for decades. Many families have been engaged in this profession for a long time, considering it their main source of income.

Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee of Trần Đề town (Trần Đề district), Tiến Chương said that the town has 410 fishing boats and vessels, including 336 offshore fishing boats with an annual production of over 40,000 tons. Currently, the town has 12 dried-fish processing facilities. The local government is planning to develop OCOP (One Commune One Product) products, encouraging small and medium-sized business households and establishing production cooperatives to strengthen the value chain.
