Hai Duong Cultivates “giant” tilapia using cutting-edge technology for U.S. export
Xuyen Viet Cooperative in Hai Duong province leverages advanced technology to raise large-sized tilapia, boosting yields by 4 to 6 times compared to traditional farming methods. Their high-quality products are exported to the United States.
Located in Hong Hung Commune, Gia Loc District, Hai Duong, Xuyen Viet Production and Trading Cooperative is a pioneer in northern Vietnam for applying the innovative “river in pond” aquaculture system. By integrating Israeli technology with Biofloc systems, the cooperative has boosted productivity to 30 tons per hectare, 4 to 6 times higher than conventional farming, while ensuring healthy, disease-free fish with superior flesh quality that meets export standards.
Currently covering nearly 140 hectares with 28 members, the cooperative produces over 5,000 tons of market-ready fish annually. About 3,500 tons consist of Thai tilapia averaging more than 4 kilograms each. These products supply both domestic markets and exports to the U.S.
Beyond farming, the cooperative has invested in a 500-square-meter deep-processing facility. Through the project “Value-added tilapia products processing using biotechnology,” they have developed products such as fish balls, fish floss, fish spring rolls, and sauces under the ROCA brand, which has earned a 3-star OCOP certification from the province.
Operating a closed production process from raw material sourcing to processing and sales, the cooperative provides stable employment for over 200 local workers, with monthly incomes ranging from 6 to 8 million VND. Additionally, by purchasing fish from local farmers, the cooperative helps stabilize market outlets and increase the value of regional aquatic products.
