Vietnam Fisheries Society: Propose to prioritize COVID-19 vaccination for fishermen and people at fish ports and fishery processors

Recently, the Central Vietnam Fisheries Society has sent an official letter, proposing to prioritize COVID-19 vaccination for fishermen and people at fish ports and seafood processors, to the Office of the Government, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to the official letter, the COVID-19 has been in a complicated situation for the past 1 year, taking its toll on trade, production, and social-economic sectors of members, farmers, and fishermen of the Vietnamese fishery industry.

Responses from members, enterprises and fishermen: The working environment on ships, at fish ports and in fishery processing factories is crowded with the workforce and traders, which is difficult to follow the social distancing regulations and brings about higher risks of the COVID-19 infection. It is mandatory to draw attention to the fishermen catching off-shore, working at the fish ports, and the workers working in fishery processing and producing factories since they need to be fully vaccinated in order to be active in production and to maintain the very first supply chain in the fishery field.

As a result, the Central Vietnam Fisheries Society proposes to the Government, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to reconsider and order locals to prioritize COVID-19 vaccination for the workforce, including fishermen taking part in off-shore catch; people at fish ports; workers in fishery processing factories. The Central Society and all branches of the Society will work in conjunction with other authorities to propagate the pandemic control movement to the members and workers following the national guidance, in order to prevent the pandemic and improve production, business and social affairs.
