Bến Tre advises shrimp farmers to recover the production when salinity level drops

The provincial sub-department of Fisheries advise shrimp farmers to speed up their seeding of marine shrimp in accordance with the actual situation of the growing ponds so as to achieve an abundant crop of brackish water this year.

Before stocking, farmers should pay attention to some matters such as degree of salinity at 10-15‰, traceable post larvae, suitable stocking density (60-80 pcs/m2, size PL≥12mm for white leg shrimp and 20-25 pcs/m2, size PL≥15mm for black tiger shrimp), frequent monitoring of weather and environmental survey result.

A technical process from pond rehabilitation to water treatment and post larvae selection must be paid attention.

Households with good conditions should nurse post larvae in small ponds, inland ponds or pond liner at a density of 1,000 pcs/m2 within 25 or 30 days before stocking in growing ponds. This will save time, decrease disease outbreak and reduce production cost.

Marine shrimp farmers are encouraged to apply science and technology in production with models such as multiple stage practice, round ponds, floating ponds and pond liners to reduce disease outbreak and harvest big size shrimp (20-25 pcs/kg) for higher economic efficiency.
