Exports of crab to major markets all increase

Vietnam has seen the highest sales of crab in China with a USD 37 million worth being recorded as of July 15, 2022, up 76% from the same period last year.

According to VASEP, Vietnam achieved over USD 111 million from exporting crab as of July 15, 2022, up 41% from the same period last year.

Crab exports continued to increase in quarter II; however, the growth rate was slower than quarter I. The top single markets of Vietnamese crab include China, the US, Japan, and France, accounting for over 92% of the country’s total export value.

The US is the biggest market for Vietnamese crab. As for July 15, 2022, Vietnam achieved over USD 38 million from exporting crab to the US, up 27% from the same period last year. Vietnam’s sales of crab to the US grew well in quarter II this year. The US market has totally opened, leading to a high consumption of crab.

China is the second biggest market for Vietnamese crab. Vietnam has achieved USD 37 million from selling crab to China by July 15, 2022, up 76% from the same period last year. Crab exports to this market continued to grow well in quarter II, however, the growth rate was slower.

As for the Japanese market, over USD 24 million worth was recorded in sales of Vietnamese crab, up 51% from the same period last year. Crab exports to this market reached nearly USD 15 million in quarter II, up 64% from the same period last year. Japan is still the biggest market of Vietnamese crab among the CPTPP members.

Vietnam’s crab exports sharply increased in the EU countries in April and June. France continued to be the biggest destination of Vietnamese crab with over USD 3 million worth being recorded as of July 15, 2022, up 60%. Likewise, exports are skyrocketing in Belgium and the Netherlands.
