Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just approved a general project to develop brackish water shrimpindustry of Vietnam by 2030 with specific plans and synchronous solutions.
The project is to focus on the development of Penaeusmonodon and Litopenaeus vannamei in coastal provinces and cities directly under the Central where the source of natural brackish water is good enough for growth and development of shrimps. Brackish water shrimp is expected to develop as a modern, synchronous and effective industry throughappealing investments and advanced technology into the chain of production, processing, and consumption. Productivity, output and commercial value of shrimp products thus will increase, leading to success of the Government to develop shrimp industry by 2030.
Particularly, total square area of brackish water shrimp is expected to be 710 thousand hectares by 2020 (600 thousand hectares of Penaeusmonodon and 110 thousand hectares of Litopenaeusvannamei), leaving 800 thousand tons of output (320 thousand tons Penaeusmonodon and over 480 thousand tons of Litopenaeusvannamei). More than 70% parent Penaeusmonodon and 30% of parent Litopenaeusvannamei will be produced, bringing export value over 4.5 billion USD. By 2025 total square are of brackish water shrimp will reach 750 thousand hectares (600 thousand hectares of Penaeusmonodon and 150 thousand hectares of Litopenaeusvannamei). Total output of brackish water shrimp will grow to 1.1 million tons (Penaeusmonodon over 400 thousand tons and Litopenaeusvannamei over 700 thousand tons). More than 90% parent Penaeusmonodon and 70% of parent Litopenaeusvannamei will be produced, bringing export value over 8.4 billion USD
By 2030 total square area might be the same as 2025, however output is expected to reach over 1.3 million tons (Penaeusmonodon over 550 thousand tons and Litopenaeusvannamei over 750 thousand tons). Total export value will reach more than 12 billion USD. Full parent Penaeusmonodon and Litopenaeusvannamei will be produce to serve the whole country’s need.
To do this, the Project must be paid attention with details like researching and producing of high quality brackish water shrimp,efficientlydeveloping commercial shrimps, improving of auxiliary industry, processing and consuming shrimps, establishing hi-tech appliance industry zone for shrimps, and hi-tech complex of shrimp production.
