Quang Ninh plans over 45,000 hectares for marine culture
7 out of 9 localities in Quang Ninh, including Quang Yên, Van Don, Hai Ha, Tien Yen, Cam Pha, Dam Ha, and Co To, have completed the establishment and approval of plans, projects, and maps for marine farming zoning so far.
Upon the directive from the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee on enhancing the management and sustainable development of aquaculture, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) has coordinated with relevant departments and localities to develop detailed zoning plans for each focused marine aquaculture area.
The DARD has also collaborated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE) to establish 5 working groups that directly guide localities on procedures, environmental impact assessment documents, licensing, and assigning marine aquaculture areas to individuals, organizations, enterprises, and cooperatives.
According to DARD of Quang Ninh, the province plans to use 45,146 hectares of marine areas for aquaculture development, including:
- Marine areas within 3 nautical miles, covering 23,875 hectares (53.0%);
- Marine areas from 3-6 nautical miles, covering 13,031 hectares (28.8%);
- Marine areas beyond 6 nautical miles, covering 8,240 hectares (18.2%).
Specifically, the investment attraction area covers 14,000 hectares. Currently, more than 3,000 hectares are being surveyed and researched for investment by organizations, enterprises, and cooperatives, concentrated in 6 localities: Van Don, Cam Pha, Dam Ha, Hai Ha, Mong Cai, and Ha Long.
Do Dinh Minh, Head of the Fisheries Sub-Department (DARD of Quang Ninh), stated: “Currently, 122 organizations and 1,116 individuals have proposed and expressed their desire of marine aquaculture. To date, local People’s Committees have not yet assigned marine areas to these people.”
