On the occasion of the 99th Anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 – June 21, 2023) organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in June 20 in Hanoi, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien extended his gratitude to the press agencies, journalists, and editors who have continuously supported the development of the country’s agriculture sector.
On behalf of the MARD leadership, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien highlighted several achievements of the agriculture sector in the first five months of the year. He emphasized that the agriculture sector has been effectively fulfilling its role as a pillar of the economy in the face of the impacts of climate change, natural disasters, pandemics, economic fluctuations, and political instability.
Recently, alongside some common economic difficulties, Vietnam’s agriculture sector has faced significant pressure from climate change and saltwater intrusion. However, under the administration and direction of the Government and MARD, the agriculture sector has achieved encouraging results. The total export turnover of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products in the first five months of the year reached USD 24.14 billion, up 21% compared to the same period last year, with seafood alone reaching USD 3.5 billion, an increase of over 40%. Key markets have been given focused attention, and many new potential markets have been opened up. Among them, the three largest export markets for Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry, and fishery products include the United States, China, and Japan.
One of the key tasks is to address the yellow card warning. Recently, on-site inspections have been carried out on the fight against IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing in some central localities. The European Commission’s (EC) postponement of their visit to Vietnam to late Q3 or early Q4, instead of May as previously planned, presents a significant opportunity for Vietnam to resolve the “yellow card” issue. The entire political system has been mobilized, so Tien hopes that media and press agencies will continue to report and reflect widely, thereby contributing to MARD’s efforts to effectively communicate on this very pressing issue.
On the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 – June 21, 2024), on behalf of MARD, Tien expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the press agencies, journalists, and editors who have overcome difficulties and hardships to stand shoulder to shoulder with the sector, providing updated information on agricultural production, farmers’ lives, exemplary production models, entrepreneurship role models, as well as the movement for new rural development and agricultural restructuring across the country.
“The positive results of the sector in recent times are not only due to the efforts of MARD, localities, and units but also owe to the significant contributions of information and communication from media and press agencies. Over the years, the press has been a strategic communication channel, contributing significantly to propagating knowledge, changing technical thinking of farmers in various regions, and becoming an important motivation in agricultural restructuring,” he affirmed.
