Australis commits to invest $100 million to expand Vietnam’s aquaculture

The US-based Australis Aquaculture commits to add USD 100 million to expand the sustainable aquaculture area in Vietnam.

This commitment was given during President Joe Biden’s official visit to Vietnam on Sep 10 and 11, together with messages which aim to strongly boost the business relationship between the two nations, especially those related to renovation for climate change adaptation.

Australis Vietnam is a subsidiary of the 100% US invested Australis Aquaculture which is the world’s largest sea bass producer, processor and exporter, with 10,000 tons of fish produced in 2022. The company is implementing the project of intelligent aquaculture on Vân Phong Bay of Khánh Hòa province.

Josh Goldman, CEO of Australis said that after three years of surveying nearly 30 fishes in Asia, Australis picked Vietnam, specifically Khánh Hòa province, due to the perfect natural conditions. The deep water Vân Phong Bay is clean and airtight, and salinity here is suitable for sea bass production.

In Goldman’s opinion, Vietnamese laborers are hard-working, intelligent and skillful. He highly evaluates Vietnamese workers as they can handle a fish more quickly, skillfully, and exactly than other countries. Besides, Vietnam’s research facilities have given proper support to aquaculture.

Goldman sets an ambitious target of producing 50,000 tons of sea bass per year.
