The Tây Nguyên Research Office of cold water fish has stored 500 parent sturgeons and 200 salmon, producing 30,000 – 40,000 fries per year.
The Lâm Đồng provincial department of Agriculture and Rural development has just reported the provincial People’s Committee about the location for research and experimentation of cold water fish by the Research Institute for Aquaculture (Ria3).
Lâm Đồng’s agriculture sector affirms that all activities by Ria3 at the Tây Nguyên Research Office of cold water fish (at Klong Klanh village, Đạ Chais commune, Lạc Dương district, Lâm Đồng province) have not left any bad impacts to the forest, and yet contributed to the development of the cold water fish sector here.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural development has informed that if approved by the provincial People’s Committee, Ria3 must remain the water surface area, leave no negative concerns to the environment and water resources, and have no bad impacts on the forest at the research location as well as surrounding areas.
Besides, Ria3 must fully follow regulations and requirements of the local management office in terms of forest and environment protection. The research must be immediately stopped if environmental pollution is detected or the protection of Bidoup – Nui Ba National Park is affected.
Võ Danh Tuyên, Deputy Director of Lâm Đồng provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural development said that Ria3 built the 5 hectare Tây Nguyên Research Office of cold water fish on a forestry land at the Sub-region no.89, 90 in Klong Klanh village in 2008. Science research activities, technology transferring, international cooperation, and experimental production of cold water fish were carried out here.
About 500 parent sturgeons, 7.5 tons in total, are stored at the Office, with four species: Acipenser baerii, Huso huso, Acipenser gueldenstaedtii, and Acipenserruthenus. About 200 parent salmon are stored here. As many as 30,000 – 40,000 fries are produced per year for the purpose of production, conservation, and storage of genes and aquatic breeding stocks in the Middle region.
According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural development, the Tây Nguyên Research Office of cold water fish is working with provincial institutes to perform thesis such as application of technology in the in-pond raceway system for commercial culture, process of cold storage of sperms of Acipenser gueldenstaedtii and Acipenser baerii. Moreover, they are studying a proper density for commercial stocking of sturgeon in Lâm Đồng and building a VietGAP based farming model of sturgeon.
