23 more seafood businesses allowed to export to China

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that twenty-three more Vietnamese seafood businesses are allowed to export to China by the Chinese General Administration of Customs.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the China Import Food Enterprise Registration (CIFER) system under the General Administration of Customs of China officially added another twenty-three Vietnamese seafood processing companies into the list of exporters to China.

As recorded by CIFER, as of early 2023, there are 802 Vietnamese companies entitled to export seafood to China.

In 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to tackle difficulties related to the registration of exporters to China in the CIFER system, supplement products into the List of exportation to China, and work with China’s competent authorities to handle seafood cargoes that receive warnings from importing markets.

The Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that in 2023 Chinese can adapt to the Covid-19 pandemic but demand is low because after three years of pandemic, income of local households has sharply fallen. Thus, Vietnam may see a slowdown in seafood exports to China, especially in the first half of the year.

“In the second half of 2023, China’s opening of the economy will work, with economic recovery being made and income rising; and as such, seafood consumption may inch up. Vietnam’s seafood exports to China, therefore, will be better than the first half of the year”, anticipated the Agency of Foreign Trade.

In 2022, Vietnam saw a sharp increase in sales of seafood in China as compared to 2021 regardless of the “Zero COVID” policy. Vietnam exported as many as 477,000 tons of seafood to China, approximately USD 1.6 billion, up 33% in volume and 61% in value as compared to 2021.
