Bình Định: no record of fishing boats in contravention of IUU regulations since early this year
Bình Định has recorded no fishing boats and fishermen trespassing foreign water territories since early 2020, Deputy Director of the provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development Trần Văn Phúc said.
Bình Định recorded 41 fishing boats and 305 fishermen trespassing foreign water territories and being captured by foreign authorities in 2018 and 2019. Bình Định People’s Committee imposed a fine of 595 million dong on 7 of 41 violated cases, 85 million dong each.
In March 2020, the province continued to put a fine of 3.6 billion dong on four boat owners and captains trespassing foreign water territories in 2019, 900 million dong each.
Other 30 violated cases have been verified and documented for punishment. Violated fishermen were confisticated their exploitation licenses, cut off from the fuel support policy and rebuked in front of other people.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Trần Văn Phúc said that the department continued to work with relevant departments and sectors in coastal areas to boost the dissemination of the law to fishermen and mete out punishment on fishing boats trespassing foreign water territories.
