Ca Mau: Invest over VND 5.2 trillion in upgrading fishing infrastructure
Ca Mau has approved a project to invest in and upgrade its fishing infrastructure through 2030, with a vision extending to 2045. The goal is to complete the construction of 13 fishing ports.
The Ca Mau Provincial People’s Committee has given the green light to the plan, which includes upgrading and building 13 storm shelter docking areas. This will involve creating 2 regional and 11 provincial docking areas, with the capacity to accommodate up to 7,700 fishing vessels for safe storm sheltering.
The total investment for this project is over VND 5,239 billion. This includes over VND 1,541 billion from the central budget, more than VND 657 billion from the local budget, and over VND 3,040 billion from non-state funds, mobilized sources, and other legal investments.
The project’s primary objective is to modernize the fisheries sector, meet socio-economic development needs, ensure food safety, reduce post-harvest losses, and guarantee safety for fishing boats and fishermen.
The plan also aims to enhance the efficiency of fisheries exploitation, meet requirements for fisheries management, and improve the monitoring of fishing boats and port unloading activities. This will contribute to the sustainable development of the fisheries sector.
Specifically, the project will upgrade and complete 13 fishing ports, including one Type I port, six Type II ports, and six Type III ports. These upgrades will ensure effective fisheries management, traceability of harvested seafood, and prevention of illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing activities.
Harbors and docking areas will be dredged, and channels to the ports and sheltering areas will be cleared to prevent natural sedimentation. This will ensure safety for fishing vessels entering and exiting the ports, loading and unloading cargo, and seeking shelter during storms.
Other fishing infrastructure, such as facilities for building, modifying, and repairing fishing boats, seafood purchase and processing plants, and suppliers of fishing inputs (fuel, ice, gear), will be inspected to ensure they meet business requirements and align with sector planning, thereby improving logistics services for the fishing industry.
