Binh Thuan: Enhancing oversight of fishing vessel movements and seafood traceability
The Provincial Steering Committee for Combating IUU Fishing has instructed fishing ports to track vessel entries and exits, oversee seafood landings, ensure traceability compliance, and implement the electronic Catch Documentation and Traceability System (eCDT) as per the directives of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Since October 2023, fishing ports have recorded a total of 72,731 vessel movements, including 35,424 arrivals and 37,307 departures, with 28,472 vessels unloading seafood. Additionally, authorities have monitored the unloading of 71,590 tons of seafood and collected 21,681 fishing logbooks, achieving a compliance rate of 76.1%. The eCDT system has registered 22,453 vessel movements.
Seafood traceability verification and certification have been conducted in accordance with regulations. Since October 2023, authorities have issued 46 certificates for 539.535 tons of seafood, including 8 certificates for 151.613 tons allocated to enterprises and organizations outside the province. Additionally, 108 certificates have been granted for 1,209.6 tons of seafood raw materials, with 7 certificates covering 48.6 tons issued to external businesses. All certified seafood shipments have cleared customs successfully, with no rejections reported.
Moreover, in line with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s directive to strengthen IUU fishing prevention ahead of the 5th EC inspection, and in response to Official Letter No. 1148/BNN-CCPT dated February 18, 2025, regarding the review of export shipment records to ensure IUU compliance, the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Environment has developed a plan and formed a task force. This team is responsible for reviewing and guiding businesses on legal seafood raw material control for export processing to the EU market, ensuring regulatory compliance, consistency, and proper record verification.
