In September, exports of Vietnamese tuna to Italy increased by 8.599% compared to the same period last year, giving Italy rank of the first importer of Vietnamese tuna among the EU countries in the first nine months of 2020.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, changes in sales of Vietnamese tuna were recorded in the main importing countries. As compared to the same period last year, exports to the markets, with negative growth in the past such as the US, EU and Japan, have bounced back. Canned tuna was the only product recording an increase as compared to the same period last year, up 22%. Meanwhile, exports of fresh and frozen tuna decreased by 30%.
Exports of Vietnamese tuna to the US have shown some signs of recovery in the last two months. Vietnam brought $25 million from exporting tuna to the US in September, up 2% compared to the same period last year.
In the EU, after two months from the entry into force of EVFTA, sales of Vietnamese tuna to the EU skyrocketed in September, up 51% compared to the same period last year.
Remarkably, exports of Vietnamese tuna to Italy in September increased by 8,599% compared to the same period last year, giving Italy the rank of the first importer of Vietnamese tuna among the EU countries in the first nine months of 2020.
Besides, exports of Vietnamese tuna to Japan and Canada grew in September. Sales of this species in Japan bounced back after three months of consecutive slump. Japan is in the trend of importing more processed tuna from Vietnam, in particular frozen loin/meat of all kinds. The export value of these products accounted for nearly 55% total Vietnamese tuna going to Japan. Canada has been a spotlight of Vietnamese tuna this year, with a consecutive triple-digit increase over the last few months.
