Khanh Hoa – Progress check on HDPE cage aquaculture at Hon Noi
Authorities in Khanh Hoa Province inspected progress on expanding a pilot high-tech marine aquaculture project in the Hon Noi farming area on June 25, officials said.
On June 25, the Center for Technology Transfer and Agricultural Extension of Khanh Hoa Province led a working delegation to inspect progress on the expansion of the pilot high-tech marine aquaculture model in the Hon Noi farming area (Cam Lam District). The delegation included officials from the provincial sub-departments of Fisheries; Seas and Islands; Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, along with technical staff from local agencies.
The team checked the installation and arrangement of HDPE cages and the stocking of fingerlings in line with regulations. Currently, fishermen from Cam Ranh City and Cam Lam District have installed a total of 26 round HDPE cages and 2 clusters of square HDPE cages at Hon Noi. Altogether, 340,000 golden pompano fingerlings have been stocked in multiple batches: 300,000 by Cam Ranh farmers and 40,000 by those in Cam Lam. Preliminary assessments by the team indicated that water quality in the Hon Noi area is suitable for the growth and development of the fish.
However, transportation remains a significant challenge. Reaching Hon Noi requires traveling 2.5 to 3 hours by boat from Cam Ranh Port or Hon Ro Port (Nha Trang), making it difficult for farmers to transport feed, drinking water, and other essential supplies for aquaculture operations.
In 2025, the Hon Noi farming zone is expected to support 50 aquaculture households from Cam Lam and Cam Ranh under the high-tech marine farming pilot program in Khanh Hoa. Each household will deploy either two round cages or one cluster of square cages. To date, 13 households have begun stocking fish. Overall, the 2025 pilot program aims to support a total of 70 aquaculture households across Cam Ranh, Cam Lam, Nha Trang, Ninh Hoa, and Van Ninh. Fishermen in these areas are currently focused on cage installation and stocking activities.
