Cà Mau: Arrest a lorry smuggling 1.3 tons of endangered marine species

A lorry smuggling 1.3 tons of endangered marine species including cucumber and surf redfish was arrested by the Cà Mau’s Market surveillance agency.

On May 24, 2020, the Cà Mau’s Market surveillance agency searched a Hyundai lorry no. 69C-061.5 at the Lộ Xe hamplet, Phú Hưng commune, Cái Nước district, Cà Mau province and found out 34 jute bags of alleged endangered marine species, cucumber and surf redfish. The driver Nguyễn Bá Nhật, addressed in Hàm Rồng commune, Năm Căn district, Cà Mau province, said that he had been hired to transport those bags from Sông Đốc town of Trần Văn Thời district, Cà Mau province to a man in Hồ Chí Minh City by a phone call. Thus, he hadn’t known anything about the owner of those bags and the receiver.

Nhật didn’t provide any proof of the origin and relevant regulated papers for those bags. Officers of Cà Mau’s Market surveillance agency withheld those bags, the vehicle and papers in accordance with administrative procedures regulations. Those bags were sealed while the Cà Mau’s Market surveillance agency was investigating to figure out the owner of those bags and preparing a full report for legal processing.
