Change some seafood exploitation sectors that leave negative environmental impacts
Deputy Prime Minister Trần Lưu Quang has just signed Decision no.208/QĐ-TTg dated March 10, 2023 approving the Project of changing some seafood exploitation sectors that leave negative environmental concerns to the ecosystem.
The Project aims to change some seafood exploitation sectors that leave bad impacts to the resources, environment, and ecosystem into other sectors with less negative environmental concerns; or change fishing vessels committed to bad environmental activities into other sectors beyond exploitation so as to gradually balance the exploitation with marine resource recovery; protect marine resources; improve working conditions, and ensure 100% fishermen to have stable job and steady income after changing their livelihood.
The Project plans to change about 2,000 fishing vessels that are exploiting in the nearshore and middleshore into aquaculture, aquaculture services, and fun fishing that localities are aiming at or tour guiding services in marine conservation zones without violating legal regulations.
1,000 vessels at the high sea, committing to marine exploitation that leaves a bad impact to resources and the ecosystem, will be changed into other sectors with less negative environmental concerns.
With the vision to 2045, Vietnam will basically finish changing the vessels that leave bad impacts to marine resources, environment, and ecosystems.
Moreover, the Project plans to change the coastal sector into seafood exploitation services, fun fishing, and others. Accordingly, fun fishing should be promoted in coastal areas, sanctuaries, and edges of islands with high tourism potential and development conditions.
