Ninh Thuan: Strives to produce 50 billion shrimp seeds
Ninh Thuan is aiming to become the leading center for high-quality shrimp seedling production in Vietnam, with a goal of producing 50 billion seedlings by 2025.
According to Dang Kim Cuong, Director of Ninh Thuan’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), on July 30, the department held a conference in Ca Mau to promote and connect the supply and demand for Ninh Thuan shrimp seedlings. The purpose is to uphold and enhance the reputation and brand of Ninh Thuan shrimp seedlings, contributing to the successful implementation of the plan to develop Ninh Thuan as the nation’s hub for high-quality shrimp seedling production from 2021 to 2030.
During the conference, 10 memorandums of understanding were signed between shrimp seedling producers and consumers in Ca Mau, with a target of supplying 8 billion seedlings from the conference date until the end of 2024.
Dang Kim Cuong mentioned that after the conference, two groups from Ca Mau conducted field surveys in Ninh Thuan. According to data collected nearly a month after the successful conference, Ninh Thuan provided almost 4 billion post-larvae shrimp seedlings to farmers in Ca Mau, a significant increase compared to the same period in 2023. With this momentum, it is estimated that Ninh Thuan will supply approximately 8 billion shrimp seedlings to Ca Mau by the end of 2024, bringing the yearly total to between 16 and 18 billion.
To build on these achievements and continue to uphold the reputation and brand of Ninh Thuan shrimp seedlings, as well as to reach the target of producing 50 billion post-larvae by 2025, Ninh Thuan’s DARD has laid out several strategies.
The department will focus on compiling data on the volume of shrimp seedlings supplied to Ca Mau, coordinating closely with both provinces to address challenges promptly, and continually assessing and improving efforts to expand the market.
Additionally, the department will advise the Ninh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee on plans to promote and connect the supply and demand for shrimp seedlings in 2025 with localities in the Mekong Delta region.
Furthermore, efforts will be strengthened in managing parent shrimp seed sources, overseeing production processes, ensuring disease safety, and strictly controlling the quality of shrimp seedlings exported from the province to meet regulatory standards. The department also plans to link the province’s aquaculture seed management software with the national aquaculture seed database to enhance monitoring and management efficiency.
