Seafood exports have seen more positive signs
In May 2019, seafood exports saw a big increase as compared to the previous month due to stronger sales in large markets.
According to statistic by General Department of Vietnam Customs, seafood exports in May 2019 reached 763.4 million USD, up 20.4% as compared to the previous month and 0.07% year on year. Generally, in the first five months of 2019 seafood exports achieved 3.18 billion USD, down 0.7% year on year. The numbers have shown positive sign in seafood exports after slump in the first three months of the year.

In May 2019 Japan was recorded to once again become the top importer of Vietnamese seafood, worth 142.07 million USD, up 35.7% as compared to April and 17.5% year on year. In the first five months of 2019, seafood exports to Japan was valued at 553.2 million USD, up 11.6% year on year.
The US ranked the second importer with seafood exports worth 124.25 million USD in May, up 21.1% as compared to the previous month and 10.2% year on year. In the first five months of 2019, the US bought Vietnamese seafood worth 509.69 million USD, up 3.8% year on year.
While seafood exports to China in May 2019 grew more than April and May 2018, total export volume was recorded a decline by 3.9% as compared to the same period last year.
Sales on EU market continued to face challenges in May with a decrease by 15.4% year on year and total exports worth 111.95 million USD. In the first five months of 2019, seafood exports to EU reached 489.86 million USD, down 11.8% as compared to the same period of 2018.
