The total export value of pangasius in September reached $167 million, showing a slight increase compared to the same period in 2022.
According to VASEP, Vietnam’s pangasius exports reached a total value of $167 million in September, marking a 1% increase compared to September 2022. During September, pangasius exports to China and Hong Kong amounted to $56 million, representing a 15% y-o-y increase. For the first nine months of 2023, pangasius exports to China and Hong Kong totaled $434 million, down 26% from the same period in 2022.
The European Union (EU) also increased its imports of Vietnamese pangasius in September, with a total value of $14 million, representing a 9% m-o-m increase and 11% y-o-y increase. Cumulatively for the first nine months of 2023, the EU imported $129 million worth of pangasius, a 19% y-o-y decrease.
Conversely, pangasius exports to the United States, CPTPP countries, South Korea, and Singapore experienced declines in September, down 3% – 54% versus the same period last year. In September alone, the US imported nearly $23 million worth of Vietnamese pangasius, representing a 29% y-o-y decrease. The accumulated value of pangasius exports in the first nine months reached $207 million, marking a 54% decrease compared to the same period in 2022.
Furthermore, a 4% decline in sales was reported in the CPTPP market in September, with a total worth of $21 million. This is the lowest decline rate within this market since earlier this. However, some countries of the CPTPP bloc still showed growth, with increases ranging from 10% to 70%, such as Japan, Mexico, and New Zealand.
Overall, for the first nine months of 2023, pangasius exports reached nearly $1.4 billion, reflecting a 31% y-o-y decrease.
