According to the shrimp industry development plan recently approved by the Chairman of the Ca Mau Provincial People’s Committee, the province aims to achieve export turnover of over $6 billion by 2050.
Ca Mau has over 300,000 hectares of aquaculture, with about 280,000 hectares dedicated to shrimp farming, producing about 240,000 tons of shrimp.
The plan outlines efforts to enhance processing capacity and environmental protection, aiming for a processed seafood output of 176,000 tons of finished products by 2030.
The shrimp industry development plan for Ca Mau for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, focuses on shifting the structure of processed seafood products for export towards increasing the proportion of value-added products to 75-80% and significantly reducing the proportion of preliminarily processed products to below 20-25%. The plan also aims to maintain and develop traditional markets (USA, EU, Japan, China) while expanding and developing other potential markets.
Future plans include the construction of two seafood complexes: the Nam Can Seafood Complex in Nam Can District, covering 190 hectares, and the Tan Thuan Seafood Complex in Dam Doi District, covering 178 hectares.
The approved plan sets a target of reaching an export turnover value of $1.4 billion by 2025. By 2030, the target is $1.65 billion, and by 2050, the goal is to surpass $6 billion.
To achieve these specific targets by 2030, the total investment capital for the development of the shrimp industry in Ca Mau is estimated to be around 20 trillion VND.
