Bình Định: Expand aquaculture models in Hoài Nhơn
The Center for Agriculture service in Hoài Nhơn town of Bình Định province implemented many aquaculture models and achieved good results in 2023.
Upon selection by the Center for Agriculture service, farmer Võ Văn Nhất experimented farming black apple snails in a 500m2 earthen pond with a stocking density of 70 – 80 pcs/m2. After nearly five months, those snails weighed up to the size of 30 pcs/kg on average, the survival rate reached 70%, the total output was 840 kg.
“I used to rear pangasius but it was not good. I decided to stop. After a while of rearing black apple snails, I realize that this species is easy to rear, and suitable to earthen ponds. The price of black apple snails ranges between 80,000 and 100,000 dong”, said Nhất.
After a five-month trial, Nguyễn Ngọc Minh in Ngọc Sơn Bắc street of Hoài Thanh Tây ward, decided to rear clown featherback instead of tilapia and red tilapia as their production was not good. Clown featherbacks are sold at 70,000 – 80,000 dong/kg.
Farmer Hoàng Xuân Trúc in Thiện Đức street of Hoài Phương ward chose to rear mud-free eels in cement ponds, he started with 9,000 breeding stocks. He shared that he frequently observed the stocking density, changed water twice a day to eliminate impurities, and used antibiotics to prevent diseases. Farmer Nguyễn Thanh Đức in Hoài Châu Bắc commune said: “Thanks to Trúc, I was introduced the mud-free eel farming model and started with 5,000 breeding stocks in my own house”.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Cong, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoai Nhon town, said: “Aquaculture models have been implemented in a positive direction. In the coming year, the town will allocate funds to multiply these models and continue to implement some hi-tech based aquaculture models”.
