Sóc Trăng: Farming area of brackish water shrimp remains 57,000 ha in 2030
The project of developing brackish water shrimp culture in Sóc Trăng, period 2023-2025, vision up to 2030 í invested by the Sóc Trăng provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The project will be performed in Trần Đề, Mỹ Xuyên, Cù Lao Dung, Long Phú districts and Vĩnh Châu town. The project is funded over 27 billion dong, with more than 17 billion dong from the state budget and more than 10 billion dong from the socialization capital. The project involves the establishment of 90 typical models which are suitable for each production sub-areas during the three year course and well controlled in terms of environment and diseases. Intentionally, 100% farming facilities and households will be qualified for aquaculture conditions and granted identification numbers, and traceability of key farmed species is assured for export purposes.
According to the project, the growth rate of production value of seafood products in Sóc Trăng is expected to reach 2.74% per year during the period 2021-2025, and 5.1% in 2025 alone. And as such, the output of brackish water shrimps is expected to reach 233,800 tons in 2025 and the export value of the province will reach USD 1 billion. In 2030, the farming area of brackish water shrimp will remain as 57,000 ha, including 3,000 ha of super-intensive shrimp farms, 44,000 ha of intensive shrimp farms, and 10,000 ha of semi-intensive shrimp farms and improved extensive shrimp farms.
The Sóc Trăng provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that they would review the project, update the data of shrimp farming areas in localities of the province, and evaluate the actual situation of shrimp culture in Sóc Trăng with specific advantages, difficulties and solutions.
