Vinh Long expands pangasius farming areas for food safety assurance

Vinh Long province is focusing on constructing pangasius farming areas for food safety assurance according to sustainable aquaculture practices, while also guiding households and farming establishments to gradually apply advanced technologies in the pangasius farming process to enhance product quality, ensure safety, and traceability of origin.

In 2023, the province added 25 hectares of water surface on commercial pangasius farming certified with VietGAP; thus the total area applying advanced production standards in the province has reached 55.8 hectares (nearly 16% of the total area of pangasius farming in the province).

Among these, there are 27 hectares certified with ASC standards, 3.8 hectares certified with BAP standards, and 25 hectares certified with VietGAP standards, with a total certified output of 11,845 tons per year (accounting for over 11% of the total annual pangasius production).

Furthermore, the province maintains one facility of pangasius fingerling production on 4.5 hectares of land certified with VietGAP, providing 54 million fingerlings per year, and 24 disease control facilities. Currently, 100% of the intensive pangasius farming areas are utilizing mud pumps, and 18% using pond systems have mechanized feeding and water exchange processes.

In 2024-2025, the province will continue to expand the pangasius farming areas for food safety assurance according to advanced and sustainable and good aquaculture practices, striving to add more 55 hectares per year of water surface for commercial pangasius farming certified with VietGAP and its equivalents.
