Ca Mau targets USD 2.4 billion in seafood exports after provincial merger

Vietnam’s newly consolidated Ca Mau province has set an annual seafood export target of USD 2.4 billion by 2030, aiming to cement its role as the country’s leading shrimp hub.

The merger brought together Ca Mau and neighboring Bac Lieu, creating a combined aquaculture area of 420,000 hectares. Prior to the consolidation, Ca Mau alone had consistently generated more than USD 1 billion in shrimp exports annually, while Bac Lieu contributed nearly another USD 1 billion.

The province’s development plan focuses on scaling up shrimp production, establishing internationally certified farming zones, and phasing out small-scale household operations. Authorities are pushing for wider adoption of organic, ecological, circular and high-tech farming models, with a target to increase output certified under ASC, BAP and GlobalGAP schemes.

Alongside farming upgrades, Ca Mau is looking to attract investment in processing, logistics and quality-control infrastructure, while expanding trade promotion. A central element is branding “Clean, Green and Sustainable Ca Mau Shrimp” for major markets including the US, EU, Japan and South Korea.

“This USD 2.4 billion export target is not just an expectation but a commitment,” said Chau Cong Bang, deputy director of Ca Mau’s Department of Agriculture and Environment. “It reflects our determination to build a modern, efficient, climate-resilient seafood sector that meets global market demands.”
