China’s restriction on ocean access is worthless

On May 11, the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development (MARD) sent an official document to the People’s Committees of coastal provinces and cities regarding China’s announcement of terminable fishing restriction; however MARD affirmed that China’s restriction of fishing in Vietnam’s water territory is worthless.

China’s Fisheries management agency implemented the terminal restriction of fishing on the ocean including Vietnam’s water territory in the South China Sea, starting at 12h on May 01, 2020 and ending at 12h on August 16, 2020.

MARD requested the People’s Committees of coastal provinces and cities to inform fishermen and affirmed that China’s restriction of fishing in Vietnam’s water territory is worthless. The authorities of provinces and cities encouraged fishermen to keep fishing in Vietnam’s water territory and guided them to work in a group or team for mutual support in the ocean.

MARD remarked that the fishing boats that were already granted certificates to work in the general fishing area of Tonkin Gulf in 2010-2020, are not allowed to exploit in the East of the division of Tonkin Gulf. People’s Committees of provinces and cities directed competent authorities to enhance their management and supervision of exploitation of fishing boats, especially monitor their departure during this time. Sudden incidents in the ocean occured to fishing boats and fishermen must be informed promptly to the hotline number 0246 273 7323 of Department of Fisheries resources surveillance.
