Kiên Giang provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the prohibition was to protect and develop the aquatic resources in the province.
According to Kiên Giang provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, from Jul 01 to Dec 17, fishing vessels under 12m long are not allowed to exploit undulated surf clams, scallops, blood cockles, and mussels in coastal areas of Kiên Giang. Those who exploit in the prohibited areas will be imposed an administrative penalty upon the Decree no.42/2019/ND-CP by the Government regarding the regulations of administrative penalty related to fisheries industry.
Kiên Giang provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed that People’s Committees of coastal districts and cities would direct the offices of agriculture and rural development and the offices of economy to inform vessel owners and businesses related to mollusk gathering, processing and trading of the prohibited period. Fishing vessels under 12m long will not be granted exploitation licenses during this period.
The Office of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Office of Economy together with the Sub-department of Fisheries surveillance conduct patrols to control, detect, prevent, and promptly handle violations related to bivalve exploitation in decentralized coastal areas during the prohibited period.
Fishing vessels under 12m long, which are managed by districts out of coastal area decentralization, will not be granted licenses of exploiting bivalves during the prohibited period by the Kiên Giang provincial Sub-department of Fisheries.
Besides, Kiên Giang provincial Sub-department of National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance will not grant Certificate of Origins of undulated surf clam during the prohibited period.
Production and trading facilities are not allowed to gather, preliminarily treat, process, preserve, and transport bivalves during the prohibited period.
