Pangasius exports to Mexico increased sharply
As of the first half of August, the total value of Vietnamese pangasius exports to Mexico increased by nearly 70% and became the largest pangasius importer of Vietnam in Latin America.
Specifically, as of the first half of August 2021, the gross export value of pangasius to Mexico reached 43.76 million USD, up nearly 70% over the same period last year, from 166% to 232%. Mexico currently surpasses Brazil to be the largest pangasius importer of Vietnamese seafood enterprises in Latin America.
The average export prices of frozen pangasius fillets to the Mexican market are in the range of 1.75-1.82 USD/kg on average. In the first half of 2021, there was a considerable increase in the number of enterprises promoting pangasius exports to Brazil and Mexico compared to the previous year. As of the end of July 2021, more than 40 Vietnamese seafood enterprises exported pangasius to Mexico.
However, since the end of July 2021, up to 50% of pangasius processing factories in the Mekong Delta have closed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the southern provinces. The situation of the pandemic is still complicated, pangasius exporters initially will have to stabilize production after the period of social distancing.
