Bình Định: Carry out electronic traceability for seafood products

The software helps ensure the accuracy of seafood origins and downsize human resources in traceability of seafood on land.

According to Trần Đình Luân, Director of the Directorate of Fisheries, in 2017 the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development assigned the General Directorate of Fisheries (now as Directorate of Fisheries) to build a software tracing the origin of aquatic species, phase I. In 2019-2020, the Ministry continued funding to finalize this software.

Bình Định accounts for over 50% of the number of tuna fishing vessels and exploited over 50% of the country’s tuna output, especially bigeye yellowfin tuna (ocean tuna).

According to Trần Văn Phúc, Director of Bình Định provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, besides urgent solutions to fight against IUU fishing, the province has applied the software of tracing wild-caught species to verify and get certificates of origin.

Thanks to support by the Centre for Marine Life Conservation and Community Development since 2020, Bình Định is one of the pioneers in online logbooks. With initial achievements, the provincial People’s Committee is having 100 online logbooks installed in local fishing vessels in 2023.
