Nearly 800 Vietnamese seafood companies approved for export to Taiwan
The number of Vietnamese seafood enterprises authorized to export to Taiwan has risen rapidly.
The Import-Export Department of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) has informed the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei about the approval of Vietnamese seafood processing enterprises eligible to export to Taiwan.
Accordingly, following Vietnam’s proposal and thorough evaluation, the TFDA has approved export permits for 794 Vietnamese seafood enterprises to export to Taiwan starting December 11, 2024.
After passing the on-site evaluation of its seafood safety and hygiene control system, Vietnam has seen a significant increase in the number of enterprises authorized to export seafood to Taiwan.
This presents a favorable opportunity for Vietnamese seafood companies to increase exports to Taiwan, as only businesses licensed by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) are permitted to export to this market.
According to data from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in the first 11 months of 2024, Vietnam’s seafood export turnover to Taiwan reached nearly USD 150 million, marking a 5.8% increase compared to the same period last year. Of this, shrimp exports totaled over USD 66 million, up 7.2%; exports of fish cakes and surimi reached nearly USD 6.6 million, up 24.7%; while exports of squid and octopus amounted to over USD 8 million, a decrease of 16.9%.
