Dong Thap Pangasius: ‘A Green Journey – Sustainable Value’
The Dong Thap Pangasius Festival 2024, themed “Dong Thap Pangasius: A Green Journey – Sustainable Value,” is set to take place from November 16-17 in Hong Ngu City
On November 5, Huynh Tat Dat, Deputy Director of Dong Thap’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, shared that the festival aims to promote the Dong Thap pangasius brand while fostering connections among businesses and partners for sharing market insights.
This event underscores the positive developments in the pangasius industry, with a commitment to producing quality fish sustainably and responsibly. The focus is on creating social benefits that enhance living standards and social equity while reducing environmental risks and the overuse of natural resources—aligning well with both local and international import standards.
The festival will feature a range of activities, such as a Border Trade Promotion Fair, an exhibition of OCOP products associated with the pangasius value chain, cultural performances, and sports events. Additionally, a year-end pangasius sector review conference, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in coordination with the Provincial People’s Committee, will discuss achievements and propose future initiatives.
Huynh Tu Linh, Vice Chairman of Hong Ngu City’s People’s Committee, highlighted that this year’s festival brings together the entire supply chain—from businesses and farmers to regulatory bodies and associations. The event also aims to expand beyond the ‘pangasius hub’ of Hong Ngu to other pangasius-farming regions.
In the first nine months of 2024, Dong Thap province farmed 1,179 hectares of pangasius and basa, yielding 335,610 tons, marking a 4.88% increase (up by 15,606 tons) compared to the same period last year.
