Prime Minister requests to terminate illegal fishing

The Prime Minister criticizes Bình Định, Khánh Hòa, Bình Thuận, Kiên Giang provinces for local fishing vessels trespassing foreign waters to exploit seafood since earlier this year.

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has just issued an official document about tackling difficulties and obstacles so as to boost the production and consumption of agricultural products, fulfill the three National target programs, and fight against IUU fishing.

The document states that no changes have been recorded in the fight against IUU fishing. The performance and disbursement of the National target program is slow with many obstacles unsolved. 

Thus, as for this matter, the Government requests a strict, synchronous and effective implementation of the issued action plan.

An initiative and strict action is necessary to implement the EC’s recommendation and the concerned people are requested to carefully prepare documents and conditions for the fourth meeting with the EC inspection (from May 25 to 31).

Drastic measures must be adopted to terminate and prevent Vietnamese fishermen from trespassing and illegally exploiting seafood in foreign waters. Violations must be punished and publicized in the media.

Institutes must patrol, control, prevent, and consolidate documents, and prosecute individuals and organizations as brokers who connect to bring fishermen and fishing vessels to exploit seafood illegally in foreign waters.

The Prime Minister criticizes Bình Định, Khánh Hòa, Bình Thuận, Kiên Giang provinces for local fishing vessels trespassing foreign waters to exploit seafood since earlier this year. Provinces are requested to review and clearly determine responsibility of local leaders and report to the Prime Minister by May 15.

Ministries and sectors are also requested to deploy measures to control and prevent illegally exploited seafood materials upon EC’s recommendation, especially materials that are imported by containers.
