Quang Binh releases juvenile shrimp and fish to restore aquatic resources
Quang Binh Province has released millions of juvenile shrimp and fish into local rivers and lakes in an effort to restore ecosystems and promote sustainable fisheries.
Since 2024, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment has partnered with local authorities to release over 1.4 million aquatic juveniles into natural water bodies, with total funding exceeding VND 1.2 billion (USD 47,000).
Most recently, 600,000 juvenile black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and 5,600 juvenile barramundi (Lates calcarifer) meeting quality standards were released into the Gianh River in Ba Don township. The annual event aims to raise public awareness and encourage community participation in protecting and restoring fishery resources.
In Quang Van commune, mangrove forests along the riverbanks have been restored to provide shelter for aquatic species. Local fishers report increased catches and say the initiative has boosted awareness about resource conservation.
Similar stocking campaigns are held regularly in districts such as Le Thuy, Quang Ninh, Bo Trach, and Tuyen Hoa, combined with efforts to promote sustainable fishing practices. According to the provincial Sub-Department of Fisheries, the stocking program will continue to expand while encouraging communities to abandon destructive practices such as electric fishing and explosives.
