Aquaculture output up in May

Output reached 370,000 metric tons for the month, up 3.3% according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The total output for the first five months of 2017 was 1.235 million metric tons, up 2.4%.
Total May output of pangasius in the Mekong Delta provinces hit 465,900 t, up 11.1% y-o-y, dispite farming area falling 6.2%. The highest increase of pangasius output was recorded in Cần Thơ city, by 50.1%, followed by An Giang, by 11.9%, and Đồng Tháp, 3.2%. The price of pangasius slightly dropped in May, to around 24,000 – 26,000 VND per kilo.

The nation’s total shrimp farming area was estimated at 597,000 hectares, up 6.8 percent y-o-y, with total output topping 144,000t, increasing by 46.2%. Shrimp prices ranged between 85,000 VND – 340,000 VND (3.7 – 15 USD) per kg.
May output of fish catch topped 1.327 mil metric tons, up 5.2% y-o-y, of which 1.264 mil metric tons were caught at sea, up 5.5%. The total output included 311,000 t caught in May, according to the Ministry.
The total output of tuna hit 10,050 t, up 5.8% y-o-y, including 2,789 t caught in Phú Yên, dropping 5.2%; 5,296 t in Bình Định, and 2,092 t in Khánh Hòa, up 14.9% and 6.1%, respectively.
