Vietnam shrimpers to commit to stop shrimp pumped with impurities

All shrimp farmers, traders and processors must commit not to inject impurities such as agar into shrimp by 2017.

This is the main message of Decision No. 2419/QĐ-TTg on December 13 of  the Deputy Prime Minister Trịnh Đình Dũng, which was designed to control, prevent shrimp pumped with impurities.

According to this, by the end of 2016, four key shrimp producing provinces including Ca Mau, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang have forced all farmers, traders and processors to stop shrimp pumped with impurities. 100 percent of cultivators are expected to put a stop to this trouble by 2017 in four keys provinces above; and in all over the country by 2018. This decision will be done by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Ministry of Public Security; Steering Board 389; Ministry of Finance and Provincial Municipal Party Committee.

The increase in shrimp prices generates higher volume of shrimp pumped with impurities, said VASEP. This kind of commercial cheating aimed at increasing the size of shrimp when selling for processors.

Raw tiger shrimp size 30 is currently priced at VND 195,000 per kilo in Kien Giang, a rise of VN 10,000 per kilo over late September; VND 215,000 per kilo in Bac Lieu, increased by VND 15,000 over late September and early October this year.
