Chinese enterprises show interest in Khanh Hoa’s grape seaweed products
Chinese businesses expressed strong interest in DT Group's processed seaweed products, particularly the dehydrated sea grapes, during their visit to the company’s production facilities in Nha Trang on December 11.
The visit was part of the 2024 Khanh Hoa-China Business Connection event, with representatives from the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and several Chinese companies participating. The delegation toured DT Group’s seaweed production plant in the Dak Loc Industrial Zone.
Nguyen Quang Duy, General Director of DT Group, highlighted that in addition to the province’s signature products like bird’s nests and agarwood, Khanh Hoa’s clean, temperate waters yield some of the highest-quality seaweed globally.
With 14 years of experience in seaweed cultivation and processing, DT Group has developed a range of value-added products such as sea grape snacks, sea grape juice, sea grape jelly, sea grape masks, and other health products. Notably, the company’s dehydrated sea grape products have successfully penetrated demanding markets like the US, Japan, and Taiwan.
DT Group operates two modern seaweed processing plants with a combined capacity of 4 million products per month. The company also maintains a dedicated research lab to customize products to client requirements. “Our production capabilities are well-equipped to meet any partner’s needs,” Duy assured the delegation.
The Chinese businesses explored the cultivation, care, and processing of sea grapes and sampled various products, expressing particular admiration for the dehydrated sea grapes.
DT Group has established a 75-hectare cultivation area, recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization as the largest Japanese sea grape farming and production site in Vietnam since 2020. The company also collaborates with farmers in the South Central Coast region to expand cultivation.
Harvested sea grapes are processed at DT Group’s facilities using ozone water filtration technology to ensure cleanliness. After a 5-7 day rejuvenation period in seawater tanks, during which the seaweed absorbs nutrients and heals, it undergoes a six-step sorting process to select premium-quality strands. The final dehydration and packaging stages ensure the product’s longevity, with a shelf life of up to one year when refrigerated.
“The dehydrated sea grapes are preserved in purified saltwater, making them a healthy choice rich in calcium, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids,” Duy explained. He emphasized that DT Group plans to scale up production to meet market demand, particularly from China.
Duy added that many Chinese enterprises have approached DT Group for sea grape export partnerships. Recognizing the strong demand for seaweed among Chinese consumers, DT Group has been working to finalize procedures for official exports to China, with plans to enter the market in 2025.
